Tech Project
Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project
One of the challenges faced by BigDataGrapes project is the preservation and adaptation of ancient varieties of grapes in different conditions, and with the use of data-powered services to demonstrate their evolution through their interaction with not only the environment (terroir), but also the universe. As some of the in-farm demonstration activities are taking part in a biodynamic vineyard, it is essential to explore the plant and vineyard interaction with cosmos, and also their connection with sensor retrieved data and measurements.
Brief description of technology
BigDataGrapes targets the technology challenges of the grapevine powered data economy as its business problems and decisions. Such challenges involve processing, analysis and visualization of data with rapidly increasing volume, velocity and variety: satellite and weather data, environmental and geological data, phenotypic and genetic plant data, food supply chain data, economic and financial data and more. The BigDataGrapes Platform aspires to advance the Big Data technical landscape by defining novel methods for distributed indexing, processing and inference, to produce consolidation and harmonization techniques that can efficiently operate over large data collections, and to develop scalable and efficient machine learning methodologies for generating predictive analytics over disparate collections of extremely large sizes.
What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable
The project would like to explore the use of data powered storytelling in a sense of connecting the vineyard and agricultural production with big data processing and data visualization layers, depicting the cosmic interaction of the vine and the universe.
Resources available to the artist
The artist will have the chance to interact with the diverse project team consisting of Data Scientists, Data visualization experts, Software developers, Viticulture and Oenology experts. Also, workstation facilities and internet access will be provided to the artist in the project’s coordinator offices in Athens, Greece.
