Tech Project
Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project
DECODE provides tools that put individuals in control of whether they keep their personal information private or share it for the public good. It is a response to people’s concerns about a loss of control over their personal information on the internet. The ability to access, control and use personal data has become a means by which internet companies can drive profits. DECODE is an experimental project to develop practical alternatives to how we use the internet today - four European pilots will show the wider social value that comes with individuals being given the power to take control of their personal data and given the means to share their data differently.
Brief description of technology
DECODE platform is going to enable participants to choose who they share their data with and what data is being shared with the recipient. The project will develop and test free, open source, distributed, privacy aware, and trusted technology architecture for decentralised data governance and identity management.
What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable
Platform will provide development of applications for participatory democracy, participatory citizens sensing, peer to peer of credentials, digital commons and open data. However, we anticipate artist/s to bring in alternative perspectives on citizens’ information privacy and security topics. As we are innovating new technological platform, artist should be encouraged to reach even wider and deeper into the spectrum of personal data ecology, and thus expose examples of overlooked perspectives.
Resources available to the artist
Waag Society can provide to the selected artist working space with internet connection, material and electronic fabrication laboratory, and also opportunity to collaborate with our partners, experts and targeted communities.
