Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project

The IoF2020 project accelerates the uptake of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the European farming and food chains in view of strengthening their competitiveness and sustainability. The core of the project lies within the 5 trials. These cover 5 sectors (arable, dairy, fruits, vegetables and meat), while involving end-users (e.g. farmers) and IoT developers, demonstrating innovative IoT solutions and their application in farming and food sector. The IoF2020 consortium of 73 partners, led by Wageningen UR and other core partners of previous key projects such as FIWARE and IoT-A. The main challenges are interoperability and re-usability of technology solutions, business models and solutions for dealing with ethical issues.

What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable

Artists dealing with technology as their creative matter produce technology-based artworks. These artworks are crucial in communicating new ideas because they are an application of the technological idea – a prototype. Industry understands and welcomes prototypes because they are concrete applications of a certain technology. Artistic prototypes are closer to market, easing the way to productization. A collaboration with an artist, in this context, should support the IoF2020 use cases in developing business with their IoT applications.
