Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project

The CREATE concept is to develop stabilized storage materials with preserved storage density, improved stability and low price, and package them in optimized heat exchangers, using optimized storage modules having a prismatic shape. Existing component hardware and infrastructure will be optimally used, to ensure the outcome of the programme. It will be tested as full scale demonstration set-up in a building, with regulatory/normative, economic and market boundaries taken into account. The CREATE system will be capable of using and delivering heat at < 100 °C, with minimal thermal losses, high cycle stability and demonstrated economic feasibility. To ensure successful exploitation, the full knowledge, value, and supply chain are mobilized in the present consortium.

Brief description of technology

The CREATE technology is a compact thermal energy storage system for the building sector. The main aim of CREATE is to develop and demonstrate a heat battery, which in our case is an advanced thermal storage system based on salt hydrates as thermochemical storage material. The heat battery consists of several storage modules containing salt, which is dehydrated (charged) in summer and hydrated (discharged) in winter. To show the applicability of our thermochemical storage solution lab tests will be performed as well as its operation under real life conditions will be demonstrated. For the latter one a full-scale system developed by the CREATE partners will be installed into an inhabited house in Warsaw, Poland.

What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable

In the near future our heat battery solution shoud be the state-of-the art seasonal heat storage solution. Thus, it is important the the design of the storage modules which contain the thermal energy storage material, i.e. the salt (hydrate), is optimized w.r.t. its volume, eg. having a prismatic shape, but also has a design which is accepted by the customers. With regard to that an artist could come into the game, who can develope practical applicable and also end-user attractive design improvements.
