Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project

Our Music Box is an open architecture that will embedd applications. The challenge we are proposing is to imagine new applications that require one or more music box. Such applications should make the concept clear enough for anybody, the intelligence is inside the box. There is not limit to the applications although we would prefer them to have usecase. One could think of a fashion show One could think of hypnosis sessions with music and specific wordings One could think of home control through music, gesture, localisation, etc... One could think of music synthesis One could think of a Music Dating application (a kind of social "Tinder" like Music Dating app) One could think of a multizone application for museum / exhibition One could think of a multizone application for theature performance Don't limit yourself, think of what could be triggered with sound, music, stories, according to the context (day, time, place, etc...).

Brief description of technology

We have created a portable sound box that provides audiophile sound quality. The sound box includes its own computer running a dedicated Linux operating system as well as application scripts based on a contextual situation and specific sensors. The included sensors are a Gestic sensor from Microchip and a Heart Rate sensor from Maxim. These two sensors allow a full control of the sound box without the need of any external device. These embeded sensors control the speaker. They also may be used for other purposes like transforming the speaker into a musical instrument or remoting external devices, etc... The sound box may interconnect with other IOT devices, external sensors and beacons via bluetooth and wifi. The sound box is a multiroom/multi zone system that can be synched. The system may also be controlled via a web interface or an application. We use a Raspberry Pi as the prototype computer. We have a few dev kit for Gestual interaction, voice activation, Heart rate monitoring We use python as the programming language for application. We can receive and send information through WiFi and Bluetooth We can interact through IFTTT protocol We can sync multiple speakers We can remote one or multiple speakers from a multi user web application.

What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable

We expect the exploration of new use cases or artistic performances using our technology fusing sound from multiple sources into an authentic experience.

Resources available to the artist

All our team is looking forward to welcome an artist in residence. Having a new member in the team means a lot to us. We will provide an office space with internet connection and access to prototyping through local fablab along with 3D printing, Mechanical, electronical and software resources.
