Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project

WEAR is mapping the ethical wearable technology and e-textiles ecosystem across Europe. Challenge description: WEAR has the ambition to identify the ‘What, Who, Where, When, Why and How’ of wearable technologies and e-textiles, in terms of where components are sourced, experimentation, design, prototyping, and how they are tentatively transformed into new business models across Europe. WEAR invites practitioners, experts, SMEs, researchers, investors, public agencies, creative and technical hubs, and others involved in the wearable technology, e-textile and sustainability supply chain to put themselves on the map and contribute to building a vibrant community of pioneers. WEAR aims to present during its final event the ecosystem of pioneers in an innovative and appealing way. The challenge is to bring the current data visualisations to a rich and interactive user experience.

Brief description of technology

On https://network.wearsustain.eu/ you can discover the WEAR network, powered by DataScouts, the Ecosystem Intelligence platform that is used to collect data and to visualise and explore the ecosystem. The SaaS platform combines - an API-based data backend enabling the automated ingestion, unification and aggregation of data from multiple sources - Machine Learning capabilities to boost information extraction from the collected data - lean front-end to present the collected information about the actors, the events and trends in interactive views and dashboards

What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable

The project is looking to translate the data visualisations in a truly immersive end user experience, to go beyond the obvious graphs and dashboards, towards a more appealing presentation that invites the end user to explore the ecosystem, to roam about the projects, the creative hubs, the best practices. We are especially interested to probe a 3D visualisation of the ecosystem and to experiment with Augmented Reality. It would be our ambition to present the wearable technologies and e-textiles ecosystem in a novel way to a large audience during the final event of the project (Q4/18). We suggest to set up 2 iterations, with living lab setups involving real end user to give feedback and improve the solution. We will work closely together with the involved wearable and e-textile ecosystems in London, Berlin, Milan, Brussels and Sofia.
