Description of the challenges faced by the Tech Project

PTwist: An open platform for plastic lifecycle awareness, monetization, and sustainable innovation Although modern life is unthinkable without plastic there is a catch. Some of the properties that make it so useful, like its low cost, light weight and durability, also make it hard to dispose of and designed to last, plastic can take thousands of years to break down. Plastics drawbacks have become a large-scale problem which needs a global response. PTwist aims to design, deploy, and validate an open platform which will twist plastic reuse practices, by boosting citizens awareness, circular economy practices, and sustainable innovation in line with the new plastics economy vision.

Brief description of technology

PTwist project integrates several diverse layers of technology, innovation and collaboration modes based on the following ICT backbone and technologies : Collaborative gamification: Collective gamified tool and apps act as an intermediate between the interfaces and the backend of the platform to provide user experience and support platform’s blockchain monetization. Gamification solutions support primarily the Plastics material delivering registry participation and a Plastics inventions e-shop and expo. Blockchains monetizing: Blockchain technologies for e-coins and e-wallets maintain immutable plastics reuse transactions records in a ledger capable of supporting plastics reuse material, products bargaining and purchasing. This facilitates the delivery of a Plastics inventions e-shop and expo, and Plastics material delivering registry modules. The transactional processing of this new payment scheme is a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. Social media and data analytics: A robust social media content processing pipeline will be capable of spotting simple and sophisticated plastics reuse thematic correlations, trends and phenomena by identifying qualitative content and further classify it in a set of context-specific plastics categories. Particular technology mature solutions, in Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) areas, support the Plastics crowdsourced topics observatory and an Open data and plastics designs repository.

What the project is looking to gain from the collaboration and what kind of artist would be suitable

Support its local and globally synchronized pilots will intensify all stakeholders (citizens communities, inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs) involvement and engagement, with emphasis on the social gains and sustainability potential. Inspiration, creative solutions and non-conventional forms of communicating projects results will highly be supported by artists and their inclusion in the project will boost its plan to largely impact : citizens and grassrooted groups co-creation, innovative and trusted collaboration and knowledge transfer by increasing all stakeholders awareness; plastics as an asset potential due to increasing its circular economy re-entering; and blockchain based novel routes to markets.

Resources available to the artist

The artist will be offered access to the open source basis of the technologies developed as well as spaces with the partner makerspaces/FabLab Luzern and the various integrated and nomadic activities of the project. This involve interaction with citizens in public spaces and the innovation projects around activating and producing under new conditions. The PTwist partners will support the artists to gain and interact with all layers of the project bridging the immaterial and the material dimensions that are at the core of the innovation processes.
